Wedding Tip Wednesday: 3 Things People Forget to Pack in Their Wedding Day Emergency Kit

If you've started planning your wedding, chances are you already know you need an emergency kit. Safety pins, bobby pins, stain remover pen. The basics are all over every wedding checklist you'll find.

But the basics aren't usually what saves the day. It's the stuff nobody thinks to pack until they're standing in a hallway at 4pm realizing they need it. Here are three things that almost never make the standard list but should.

1. A Phone Charger and a Portable Battery Pack

Your phone is going to get more use on your wedding day than almost any other day of your life. Photos, texts from vendors, calls from your coordinator, timeline check-ins and somehow, it's always at 12% by 2pm.

The problem is that nobody actually remembers to charge it that morning, because there are about fifteen other things happening at once. Pack a portable battery pack in your emergency kit and hand your phone off to your maid of honor or a bridesmaid to keep charged throughout the day. You'll thank yourself later.

2. Snacks You Can Eat Without Ruining Your Makeup

Wedding mornings are notorious for skipped meals. Between hair, makeup, getting dressed, and photos, food is usually the first thing that falls off the schedule and low blood sugar is not a good look for anyone's wedding day mood.

The catch is that most easy snacks (think finger foods, anything greasy or messy) aren't great once your lipstick is on and your nails are done. Pack things that are low-mess and quick: protein bars, pre-cut fruit, or something you can eat in a couple of bites without needing a napkin apology.

3. A Mini Sewing Kit and a Few Extra Safety Pins

Hems drag. Straps snap. Buttons pop at the worst possible moment — usually somewhere between the ceremony and the first dance. A small sewing kit with a needle, thread that matches your dress, and a couple of safety pins can fix almost any wardrobe malfunction in under two minutes, no seamstress required.

Your emergency kit doesn't need to be complicated, but it should go beyond the standard checklist. Charge, food, and a quick fix for wardrobe mishaps will cover you for the moments no one plans for - which, on a wedding day, are usually the moments that matter most.
